Here are some variety of foods that first timer in the Manila should try.

These are based actually from foreigners who have worked and visited the Philippines. They were asked which food in Manila they thought good and will be recommending to their friends and family if ever they will visit Manila.

 

Delicious Dishes

 

        Pancit Palabok is a noodle dish with shrimp sauce and topped with several ingredients such as cooked shrimp, boiled pork, crushed chicharon, tinapa flakes, fried tofu, scallions, and fried garlic.

        Originally, pork sisig is composed of chopped pigs face (snout included) and ears with a generous amounts of chicken liver. Hundreds of sisig variations are available today ranging from the original pigs face (maskara) ingredient to a more healthy seafood concoction such as squid, tuna, milkfish (bangus), and mussels.

        Chicken Inasal is a grilled chicken dish and one of the well known Ilonggo dishes. This is done by marinating chicken pieces in a unique blend of spices and grilling them until done. Sounds like a simple grilled chicken recipe, isn’t it? Well, it might sound like one; however, the special marinade and basting sauce makes this Ilonggo version of the grilled chicken extra special.

        Adobo is pork cooked in soy sauce, vinegar, and garlic. This is considered by many as the Philippine’s national dish because of its popularity, ease in preparation, and long storage life. Adobo is not only limited to pork and chicken, other meats, seafoods, and vegetables such as squid, goat meat, veal, beef, shrimp, river spinach can also be cooked this way.         Sinigang is a Filipino soup or stew characterized by its sour and savoury taste most often associated with tamarind. It is one of the more popular viands in Philippine cuisine, and is related to the Malaysian dish singgang.

        Kare-kare is a Philippine stew complimented with a thick savory peanut sauce. It is made from a base of stewed oxtail, pork hocks, calves feet, pig feet, beef stew meat, and occasionally offal or tripe.

Tasty Desserts/Snacks

 

        Haluhalo or Halo-halo is a popular Filipino dessert with mixtures of shaved ice and evaporated milk to which are added various ingredients, including boiled sweet beans, coconut, sago, gulaman, tubers and fruits.

        Pichi-Pichi is a gelatinous dessert (this can also be eaten as a heavy mid-afternoon snack) made from grated cassava and sugar. The concoction is placed in a mold and steamed until a sticky-gelatinous texture is formed. After steaming, this is coated with grated coconut for additional flavor.

        One of the all-time favorite “pasalubong” is the Buko pie. This sweet and rich pie is made from young coconut meat which is locally known as “Buko” meat. “Pasalubong”, on the other hand, is a gift for a family member or friend bough by a traveler returning from a trip.

        Purple yam is used in a variety of desserts, as well as a flavor for ice cream, milk, Swiss rolls, tarts, cookies, cakes, and other pastries. In the Philippines, it is known as ube and is often eaten boiled or as a sweetened jam called ube halayá; the latter is a popular ingredient in the iced dessert called halo-halo.
